The piece, and the wood it is made from.
A trivet keeps a hot pan off your worktop or table. These three are triangular frames that nest inside one another, so the set takes up the space of one. Use them nested as a single 23 cm trivet under a big casserole, or apart for three smaller pans.
They are made by hand in Poland by an independent woodworker we have worked with since 2023, in American black walnut or oak, finished with a light oil and engraved with the Oishya logo. Plain enough to leave out on the table between meals.
Wrapped in black paper, they make a good housewarming or wedding gift.

Where it is made
Poland. One woodworker, by hand.
The trivets are made in Poland by an independent woodworker we have worked with since 2023. He cuts, joins, shapes and oils each one himself, in small batches a few times a year.
The walnut is American black walnut that we buy from a Polish timber yard and have delivered to his workshop. The oak he chooses himself.
Care, briefly
A few habits keep the wood for life.
01.
Hand wash, dry standing up.
Warm water, a soft sponge, mild dish soap. Never the dishwasher: heat splits the wood. Stand it on edge to drain so air reaches both sides.

Oil it once a month.
A teaspoon of food-safe camellia or mineral oil, wiped on with a soft cloth. Let it soak ten minutes, wipe off the excess. Stops the wood drying out.
03.
Never leave it wet.
Standing water rots the surface. After washing, dry it within sixty seconds. Wood is forgiving of almost everything except a wet sink overnight.

I bought both oak and walnut versions. It was a big investment, but worth every penny. The quality is superb – the smaller trivets suitable for various size saucepans and the larger one ideal for a big casserole dish or pressure cooker. They are practical, but also the beautiful wood and craftsmanship makes them a delight to use.
