Magnets are an overlooked and under-appreciated ally in a kitchen storage and its organisation. This is especially true in small kitchens with few cabinets and paltry counter space. In this article we’re selected top 6 – in our opinion – most clever products that use magnets to help keep what you need at hand, giving your kitchen an uncluttered, streamlined look.
1. Magnetic Kitchen Towel Holder
Our first pick is a magnetic kitchen towel holder. It allows you to hang a kitchen towel around the refrigerator handle and on a hook, and pretty much change its location wherever there is some metal 😉 We love the ease of use of just sticking it right to the flat surface. Worth remembering: if you have a stainless steel fridge with high nickel content, magnets may not stick – check the sides of the fridge which may have a different material or try it on your oven or other large appliance.
2. Magnetic Meat Thermometer/Timer
3. Magnetic Measuring Spoons
If you don’t cook or bake often, I wouldn’t recommend cluttering your oven or fridge up with these, but if you do, hanging up one or two may save you time picking through your utensils. And, of course, if you nest them, the magnets hold the set together.
4. Magnetic Rack Or Magnetic Knife Stand
Magnetic knife holders are specially designed with the highest care for your knives and kitchen tools. Hidden strong neodymium magnets guarantee that the objects don’t move.
A magnetic knife rack is a no-brainer in a small kitchen. You can mount them to your wall, or if you’re a renter, consider a double magnetic holder that you can put on your fridge. And you don’t have to limit yourself to knives – hang up any metal utensils you like. I’ve gone in deep on this topic before; you can find options to buy or diy here.
If you don’t have a good space to put the rack on the wall, the alternative are magnetic kitchen stands (or blocks).
5. Magnetic Spice Jars
Free up cabinet space and hang your spices right on your fridge. You can buy or make your own magnetic spice jars by attaching magnets to the jar lids.
6. Magnetic Bottle Opener
Most of us don’t open enough bottles to warrant amounted opener, but if you do, why not get a magnetic one that sticks to your fridge. It has the nifty side effect of catching your metal tops. Alternatively, you can always stick the normal metal bottle opener to a magnetic rack/stand (assuming that the rack you got has strong neodymium magnets built in).
That’s it. Those are our 6 top picks. Do you have any of those little inventions in your kitchen?
