Wooden Magnetic Knife Stand Block
A magnetic knife block in solid hardwood. Concealed neodymium magnets hold each blade flat against the wood, so the edge never touches anything, and the solid, non-slip base keeps it steady on the counter.

Slot blocks force the blade through a tight wooden channel every time you put a knife away. That channel dulls the edge.
This block uses concealed neodymium magnets inside a hand-finished hardwood face. The blade rests flat against the wood, held by the magnets inside, so the edge never touches anything. It holds up to six knives with blades up to 27cm, sits flat on the counter and reads as a piece of furniture rather than a kitchen gadget.
Oak or American walnut, finished with natural oil and a food-safe stain, so the steel never reacts with the tannins in the wood and leaves a mark. Oak is rich in tannins, so dry your knives before putting them back: wet steel left against oak can mark it. The face carries the engraved Oishya logo, three Geisha fans, a family crest from the Edo period. Made in Poland by an independent woodworker we have worked with since 2023.
The hands that make it
Seki. Nearly eight hundred years of blade-making.
Seki, in Gifu, has forged blades since the thirteenth century, first swords, then kitchen knives. The workshop we work with there forges five of our six lines.
The handle is made in Poland: a stabilised maple burl body and a bog oak ferrule, meeting the blade at a hand-fitted copper ring in an octagonal profile.

Seki. Fast achthundert Jahre Klingenschmiedekunst.

Sakai. Six hundred years of blade-making.
Sakai, in Osaka, is the birthplace of the traditional Japanese kitchen knife, a craft passed down for six hundred years from the methods used to forge samurai swords. KYU is forged there by a master blacksmith whose family has been at this work since 1927. We make his blades under the name Sakai Kyuba.
The steel is AUS10, folded into 46 hammered Damascus layers and hardened to HRC 62. Each blade passes through around two hundred and twenty steps over roughly three months; the hammering, finishing and sharpening are done by hand.

Sakai in Osaka ist der Geburtsort des traditionellen japanischen Küchenmessers, ein Handwerk, das seit sechshundert Jahren weitergegeben wird und auf die Schmiedetechnik der Samuraischwerter zurückgeht.
